Are you struggling to keep up with the Instagram algorithm and trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t? Read on for tips to help you wing it!
I am sure you’ve been racking your brain on how to grow your Instagram and perhaps even thought off using one of those very appealing ‘do it for’ you apps because when you think you’ve got the hang of it now, Instagram goes and change the algorithm again. But don’t!
Instagram is closing down on bots more and more, so I would stay clear. It gives you the numbers but they are not your audience & some are fake accounts.
But don’t feel discouraged I am going to share tips that will help to increase your Instagram followers and engagement.
Engage with your audience
Engagement is vital on Instagram. They look at this in their algorithm to determine if they want to make your post more visible. You also need to engage with other accounts, liking and commenting on relevant posts. When I say relevant, it should be posts posted by your audience. This way your account becomes visible to your ideal client.
Build connections & relationships
People want to get to know you before they buy from you.
That is where the ‘social’ in Social Media comes in. It’s not always about the numbers. Having a small following but an engaged following is better than thousands of followers who don’t engage. Showing up daily, being consistent, start conversations will bring your business top of mind when they are ready to buy. Don’t have the time? Check out our Social Media Packages.
Use & research relevant hashtags
Hashtags are essential to growing your account but make sure they are relevant to your image. I do regular hashtag research and have a Trello board with groups of hashtags. Having a list close by comes in handy when you want to post. How do you search hashtags? You can use Instagram’s search functionality, or you can look up accounts that post similar content and see what hashtags they’re using. You are allowed maximum 30 hashtags per posts.
When posting mix, your hashtags per post as Instagram might ban you if you keep on using the same hashtags over and over.
Remember I said to keep a list handy, well this will help you to change it up. Researching hashtags will save you a lot of time in the long run. Interested in a list of 90 -100 hashtags for your industry contact me. Be sure to check out Preview App’s list of banned hashtags, yes you do get banned hashtags. Keep on checking your hashtags regularly.
Tip – Use hashtags that has a low to medium amount of posts (I would suggest max 500k) When you target hashtags with millions of posts you are competing against millions of posts while if you choose a hashtag with 25k posts your post you are competing with a smaller group.
